October Fun

Where did October go?!  Well, here's a quick rundown of what we were up to during that month:

1. We tried getting outside whenever it was nice out.  We spent a fair amount of time either in our backyard or at the park and even made it back to the pond a time or two.
2. I finally got my contact situation figured out.  Jeff and I both had eye doctor appointments back in June and his were just fine while my left one was not quite right.  We knew it was messed up so it wasn't a huge surprise.  Well, after trying 5 different rigid gas permeable lenses, many trips to check on those 5 lenses, and a trip to an eye specialist to make sure nothing was seriously wrong, I'm now wearing soft lenses and things are just fine.  Nothing like seeing your eye doctor twice a month for 4 months. :P
3. I subbed for the first time since Maria's been born!  It was just an afternoon and all was well.
4. The St. John's Festival was the 3rd weekend in October.  We missed out on it last year b/c we were camping at Pokagon, but we made up for it this year.  We ate up there Saturday and Sunday nights and Jack really got into playing some of the kid games!
5. The kids and I went to visit my friend, Sally, a few weeks ago.  Jack and Maria were great in the car (it's about 2 hours each way) and we had a fun time visiting with her, Frank (her 7 1/2 month old), and Sr. Jen!  Thanks for having us, Sally!
6. Last weekend was the annual Seibert/Meyer camping weekend at Pokagon State Park.  We camped both nights (BRR).  Ok, we did have an electric blanket and a heater in the tent.  Friday night was pretty comfy, but Saturday night was a little chillier.  We had a nice time hiking down to the beach, the spring shelter, and going to the nature center and the horse barn.  Jack had a blast on Sunday when Kevin and Elizabeth Seibert and Uncle Jake and Aunt Holly came along with all of the kiddos.  He made fast friends with "little" Natalie and had fun playing with the trucks and leaves.  Maria played in the leaves and just enjoyed being outside. She also probably ate enough dirt to last a lifetime,. Enjoy the pictures!

Jack being a turtle.  Gotta love creativity!

Hanging out on the front porch one morning.

Maria trying on the hat that Jack borrowed from  G & G Bockey ( I think).

Cedar Point as seen from Huron!  Jack's never been there so to him it was just a bunch of big tall things in the distance.

We went walking on a pier that Sally's been wanting to check out.  There was trash and driftwood blocking the way so Sr. Jen and Jack crossed it and then stood and chuckled while Sally and I carried the strollers over it!

Frank and Maria hanging out in their strollers at the end of the year.

The walkway ended but we weren't to the lighthouse yet.  Sr. Jen and Jack walked on a little path to check it out.  They came back and reported that from here out to the lighthouse it was all grass/weeds and a rock edge.  We later discovered that where the walkway ended there used to be a lighthouse.

After our walk, we went to a small park where Frank took his first swing ride!  Frank and Maria both fit in the swing.  It was kind of cute since neither of them apparently minded being a swing with someone else.

That evening, Jack and Dad built a block tower.  He was pretty excited that he got it that tall.

Happy Halloween from Jack the firefighter and Maria "Minnie Mouse"!

Maria hanging out with Grandma Meyer around the campfire at Pokagon

Maria and Dad were up early on Saturday morning.  Maria had her gloves and hat on while hanging out in the leaves.  They're hand me downs from her brother.

Checking out the horses with Dad, Grandma Meyer, and Aunt Natalie

Jack checking out the animals in the nature center.

Gabriella Coolman, Oliver Seibert, Jack, and Natalie Seibert playing in the leaves and with the big trucks.

 Gathered around the campfire

Natalie Seibert, Jack, Samantha Coolman, and Tessa Seibert checking out the turtles at the nature center.

Gabriella really liked seeing her cousin, Maria.

Oliver, Jesse Coolman, Tessa, and Jack on a tire swing on the playground near the nature center.

Oliver, Jesse, and Natalie playing around the tree while Tessa and Jack relax in chairs and watch.

Uncle Nick played the guitar while Grandpa Meyer and Maria listened.

The kids helped Jeff take down the tent and flatten it out.

I love that everything is still the same at Pokagon- especially at the nature center. I wish we could have been there.
